In The Heart of The Camel Market #birqash_camel_market The Birqash Camel Market (Souk El-Gimal), is one of the exceptional places in Egypt. There, I really found another soul, a distinct mindset of people and a completely different life. Being the largest camel market in Africa, it always gives me the impression of a different place, rather as if I had travelled to another country. With its distinct traits, kind yet bizarre-looking men, it gives you a unique experience. As a photographer, it was really difficult for me to capture an emotional gesture of any of these people. After frequenting it several times, I decided to document this experience in a video to show up different aspects. Few photographs would not depict such details, starting from camel meat trading and auctions, till moving to final destinations between tourist places or butchers. I felt it a must to live with them and experience the details of their lives. In auctions of camels held therein, more than one thousand camels are sold every market day in the period between 7am and 11 am.
